| BE
A MENTOR
You
Can Make A Difference.
Being a mentor is about communicating in a
meaningful way. It痴 about being yourself and sharing
your experience and your perspective on life. As a
mentor, you値l form a one-to-one relationship with a
student or adult learner who needs your support and
attention. You値l be a positive role model and a trusted
friend.
And, as with any friendship, you値l get a lot out of it,
too.
Do you have an hour a week to share?
That痴 all it takes! You volunteer to spend an hour a
week with your mentee, or more if you prefer, in a
school or community-based setting. You choose a time
that痴 convenient for you.
How Do
You Become A Mentor?
Just call the RI Mentoring Partnership today at
401-732-7700 or e-mail
inquiry@mentorRI.org.
We値l be happy to answer your questions and send you an
application if you decide to volunteer.
You fill out the
application,
outlining your interests and skills. Tell us whether you
prefer to mentor a boy or a girl, and whether you would
like to work with an elementary, middle or high school
student, or help an adult get a second chance. After a
background check, you値l attend an orientation session
and training workshop, where you値l receive a manual
with guidelines, helpful tips and suggested activities
to do with your mentee. You値l ask questions and meet
other new mentors.
We値l send you some basic information about your
prospective mentee, and with your approval, set up an
introductory meeting. You値l have the opportunity to
attend periodic support meetings and workshops with
other mentors to share ideas and discuss issues.
